Violence Against Healthcare Professionals and Vandalism of Hospital Infrastructure
The alarming upsurge in episodes of violence against healthcare workers and vandalism of hospital infrastructure over the last more than 2 decades is frightening. As a backlash, it is reshaping the medics’ response to address medical emergencies and intractable illnesses. According to a report, more than two-thirds of health workers face some kind of violence in their lifetime. Hospitals are places to treat the diseased, the debilitated, and the moribund. Haplessly, they are turning fast into bedlams of chaotic uproar where medics may be abused, vituperated, browbeaten, kicked, bruised, slapped, punched, drubbed, and thrashed without the fear of law.

The manner in which a postgraduate trainee doctor of R.G.Kar Medical College was raped - murdered is bound to anger the doctors and other medical staff working in hospitals. The careless and insensitive attitude of the Central Government is also to blame for this sorry state of affairs and needs to be given a serious look. If they could timely enact stringent laws, strengthen the law enforcement agencies and legal system it could bring some drastic change in the mindset of the male dominated society.

With the NTA's alleged irregularities numbering around 21, it is in the eye of a storm vehemently trying against all odds to salvage its remaining self respect by doing everything possible in the name of the game to stop a RE- NEET from taking place and this time succeeding too as the Apex Court after exploring all evidences of paper leaks surprisingly ordered a NO RE-NEET after observing that the paper leak was restricted to Patna and Hazaribagh i.e. it was localised - a decision that did not go well with the student community and many others who felt that the Apex Court had with jaundiced eyes failed to see the right thing in the right manner.
Lessons for India from NEET 2024
In the NEET 2024 case, the Supreme Court acknowledged that the paper was indeed leaked. However, the court refused to annul the examination. In response to the irregularities found in NEET, the government has formed a high-level committee to bring extensive changes to the entire process. Despite the Supreme Court's decision, most students who appeared for NEET 2024 believe that this year's exam was marred by discrepancies at every level, and many undeserving candidates have secured merit positions and are now preparing to enter medical colleges. This unfortunate situation will only embolden the paper leak mafia.
