Reality is often not easy to accept and is the domain where one can get good things done. But, reality has its own challenges and by pushing through these challenges we can create new values and spot opportunities for moving towards the desired goals.
The sacking of Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh, Director General of NTA was the first correct step towards restoring the confidence of the student community and acknowledging that marked improvements were needed immediately to annul the irregularities and ' wrongs ' at multiple levels as the rot had percolated the so called ' system '.
The NTA complied with the Supreme Court's order and announced the revised result of the NEET UG 2024 masking the identity of the aspirants, which actually added more confusion to the already existing situation.
Meanwhile, the CBI and other investigating agencies are making regular arrests and grilling all those allegedly involved in the scam spread through many states - the last being Odisha.
With the NTA's alleged irregularities numbering around 21, it is in the eye of a storm vehemently trying against all odds to salvage its remaining self respect by doing everything possible in the name of the game to stop a RE- NEET from taking place and this time succeeding too as the Apex Court after exploring all evidences of paper leaks surprisingly ordered a NO RE-NEET after observing that the paper leak was restricted to Patna and Hazaribagh i.e. it was localised - a decision that did not go well with the student community and many others who felt that the Apex Court had with jaundiced eyes failed to see the right thing in the right manner. They opined that instead of nepotism and corruption, good values like respect for honesty, merit and reliable transparency in the entire process from conducting the examination to selection of the right candidate, inculcating in them a sense of responsibility and accountability for ' cosmetic changes ' will not bring any real change and that too from above downwards.
Presently, the functioning of the NTA is under the scanner and an expert panel has been formed to suggest examination reforms and rectify deficiencies in the examination system. This clearly indicates that the sanctity of the NTA has been without the doubt been eroded and it will not be long before the Supreme Court reconsiders its earlier decision and orders a RE - NEET. At present this may seem to be wishful thinking and a tall claim, but today everything is possible. This reminds me of an old very widely read murder case " No one killed Jessica ", where one court initially acquitted the culprit but another decision sentenced him to life imprisonment.
