With the NTA's alleged irregularities numbering around 21, it is in the eye of a storm vehemently trying against all odds to salvage its remaining self respect by doing everything possible in the name of the game to stop a RE- NEET from taking place and this time succeeding too as the Apex Court after exploring all evidences of paper leaks surprisingly ordered a NO RE-NEET after observing that the paper leak was restricted to Patna and Hazaribagh i.e. it was localised - a decision that did not go well with the student community and many others who felt that the Apex Court had with jaundiced eyes failed to see the right thing in the right manner.
Lessons for India from NEET 2024
In the NEET 2024 case, the Supreme Court acknowledged that the paper was indeed leaked. However, the court refused to annul the examination. In response to the irregularities found in NEET, the government has formed a high-level committee to bring extensive changes to the entire process. Despite the Supreme Court's decision, most students who appeared for NEET 2024 believe that this year's exam was marred by discrepancies at every level, and many undeserving candidates have secured merit positions and are now preparing to enter medical colleges. This unfortunate situation will only embolden the paper leak mafia.
DOWNFALL SYNDROME
The entire education system needs to be freed from the clutches of the nexus operating in the shadows of commercialization. Treating the recent happenings as a symptom of something uglier to come, all stakeholders in the education system must contribute to prevent India's reputation of being a country where merit is respected through transparent examinations from going down the drain !!!
No One Rigged NEET 2024
Despite the avalanche of facts and evidence, the claim that the NEET exam paper was leaked on a large scale remains unsubstantiated. The word "integrity" should embody an untouchable sanctity, yet in the context of NEET 2024, its essence appears to have been diluted. In the past, any breach in the paper's chain of custody was enough to declare a compromise in exam integrity. Now, a localized leak does not seem to tarnish the sanctity of the examination. In this digital era, the distinction between local and global leaks appears almost ludicrous.
Chances of re exam have increased, students deserve better representation in Court
The NEET case now appears to be reaching a decisive stage. During the hearing, the Supreme Court made stern remarks, stating that a paper leak on social media would spread like wildfire. The court also mentioned that if there is a significant gap between the printing of the paper and the exam, the likelihood of a widespread leak is still high.The court also made serious comments onThe rank inflation, noting that the kind of inflation being seen is unusual and should be investigated. When the next hearing takes place on July 11, the following points should be presented before the court.
EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT " UN EDUCATIONAL"
The recent scandals in education point to the saddest reality that we are yet to consider education as the only potent tool in our hands to elevate India as a great nation. Thanks to compromises and academic standards of a disturbed conscience which are sickeningly widespread in our society.
NEET Tragedy - Dilemma between Injustice and Inconvenience
The affidavit submitted by the government to the Supreme Court acknowledges that the paper was leaked in limited areas, while until a few days ago, the government was completely denying this. The Union Education Minister had explicitly denied any paper leak. The NTA also did not acknowledge any paper leak in its press releases, even though evidence started emerging on the day of the exam itself, on May 5.
ENACTING STRINGENT LAWS NOT ENOUGH
Irregularities and paper leaks in competitive exams are not uncommon. It has been happening regularly in the past too, but the manner in which the NTA conducted NEET UG 2024 is a glaring example of of overconfidence and audacity that no action will be taken against them has become the talk of the town and has eroded the sanctity of the examination conducting agency, education ministry and many others, all in one go.
When Will the Children Suffering from the NEET Tragedy Get Relief ?
Thousands of dreams are broken. Parents, who took loans for their children's education, hoping they would become doctors and repay the debts, are in deep despair. Future NEET aspirants are also in mental turmoil, unsure of their goals. Even if they score 670, will they get a government college seat? Their lives seem to have come to a standstill, unable to see the dawn of this dark night. The system talks about future measures but ignores the innocent children trapped in the NEET tragedy, their tender minds bleeding. No one seems to be there to gather their shattered dreams. Many children might stop dreaming of becoming doctors, and even if they do, having witnessed this tragedy closely, they might prefer to migrate to another country. Perhaps this country doesn't need their talent.
