On February 5, the Bihar Police arrested the accused who leaked the NEET 2024 paper in Patna by forming an organized gang. During interrogation, it was revealed that a day before the exam, on February 4, twenty-five students were made to solve the exact paper that was given in the exam the next day. The students caught in this case also admitted in their statements that all two hundred questions in the exam were the same ones they had been made to memorize the day before.
Econmonic Offence Unit of Bihar accuses NTA of Non cooperation in the investigations-
Burnt papers were recovered from the houses of the accused. The Patna police have all the information on the checks and transactions worth lakhs of rupees transferred by the students who took advantage of the leaked paper to the accused. Later, this case was handed over to the Economic Offences Unit. The Economic Offences Unit requested some documents from the NTA for the investigation, which the NTA did not provide. On June 12, a news report in Dainik Bhaskar, citing the head of the Economic Offences Unit, stated that the unit is now preparing to send a legal notice to the NTA to obtain the necessary documents.
Burning Questions-
Here are fifteen burning questions for the NTA from students regarding the NEET 2024 major scandal:
2. How many students got registered during this window?
3. What was the NEET score of these students? How many of them received grace marks?
4. Were all students at the centers where time loss occurred given grace marks, or only those who complained or took legal action?
5. On May 5th, there were reports of paper leaks and cheating in several locations. How many FIRs did the NTA file?
6. What cooperation did the Bihar Police and the Economic Offences Unit seek from the NTA during the investigation, and how did the NTA respond? What documents were provided to these agencies and when?
7. Upon receiving information about the NEET paper being available on Telegram, what actions did the NTA take? Was a complaint filed with the cybercrime police?
8. At what level and by which official was the recommendation for awarding grace marks made?
9. What was the maximum number of grace marks awarded?
10. What were the ranks at specific scores before grace marks were awarded, so that students can understand the impact of grace marks on their ranks?
11. Explain the difference between unfair means and breach of the integrity of the exam with examples. Is obtaining the paper a day before the exam considered unfair means or a breach of the integrity of the exam?
12. Regarding the organized gang in Bihar that had the paper, how was it investigated to determine how many people they shared it with? What were the statements of the gang members? How far has this case been investigated? What efforts has the NTA made to delve deep into this case? Which NTA official was assigned to investigate this case?
13. Why and how were students from other states allocated centers in Godhra, Gujarat, when the registration form offered the option to choose a center in their home state?
14. How did the difficulty level of the 2024 paper compare to that of 2023?
15. When, why, and by whom was the date of June 4th chosen for the result announcement, when June 14th was the originally designated date for the announcement?
Casual approach or cover up?
This FIR was registered on May 5 at Shastri Nagar police station in Patna, but the NTA dismissed it as a simple case of unfair means, even though the FIR clearly stated that the chain of custody of the paper was broken and the paper was leaked by an organized gang. There is a strong possibility that the paper leaked on May 4 could have reached many places.
Once a paper is leaked from the custody of the exam-conducting agency, the sanctity of that exam is immediately compromised. However, the NTA has continued to treat this extremely serious incident as a simple case of unfair means. The NTA’s lack of cooperation with the Economic Offences Unit clearly indicates that the NTA does not want this matter to be investigated at all.
The NTA wants to complete the admission process for the year 2024 as quickly as possible to cover up the NEET 2024 paper leak incident.* In today’s age of social media, any document can reach any corner of the world in the blink of an eye. This is the reason why this year's rank inflation appears to be five to six times higher.
Until the investigation conducted by the Bihar Police is brought to light by a court order, the truth about the paper leak will not be revealed. If this does not happen, unqualified individuals will succeed in gaining admission to medical colleges in place of thousands of deserving and meritorious students. To bring justice to thousands of students by reaching the masterminds of the NEET 2024 scam, the Bihar Police must present this case before the court. The media is entirely focused on grace marks, while the real cause of rank inflation is the paper leak in Bihar. The NTA may withdraw the grace marks themselves, but only the Bihar Police case will deliver justice to the students.
Dr Lakshy Mittal ,National President of United Doctors Front Association has asked for rexamination because he strongly feels that sanctity of exam has been compromised and justice can be done only by conducting re examination.
While the future of 25 lakh innocents students looms in dark all eyes are towards Supreme Court where multiple petions are pending.
