Curious case of NEET 2024 Rank Inflation, a scientific analysis by AIIMS Jodhpur Professor

As the controversy surrounding NEET 2024 intensifies, new facts are continually emerging. On one hand, the Bihar police investigation is uncovering fresh details daily, while on the other, the analysis of NEET 2024 results is revealing new information that cannot be ignored. The examination first came under scrutiny due to the presence of 67 students scoring a perfect 720. Additionally, many students were shocked by their rankings. Those expecting high ranks ended up with very poor ones.

Professor Pushpinder Singh Khera from the Radiology Department at AIIMS Jodhpur conducted a detailed study of the rank vs. score relationship in the NEET 2024 results. His analysis has brought to light surprising findings that point towards significant irregularities in NEET 2024.

While the National Testing Agency (NTA) attributes the rank inflation to a reduced syllabus, a higher number of candidates, and an easier exam, Dr. Pushpinder's analysis does not align with these explanations. According to Dr. Pushpendra, if the NTA's reasons were accurate, rank inflation would be evident across all score ranges. However, the inflation is only observed at scores above 620.

Dr Pushpinder Singh says that NEET 2024 is an outlier exam in terms of a high proportion of students scoring marks in the top bracket (620-720).
This number (nearly 59000) is more than the combined number of students in this bracket for the last three years (43174) and is three times compared to the yearly average.

This increase is not explained by the overall increase in number of candidates taking the exam this year when compared to the previous three years or a reduction in the syllabus.
There is a noteworthy percentage reduction in number of students scoring between 320-420 in NEET 2024 and almost the same percentage is reflected in the increased percentage in the top bracket (620-720) for this year.
This selective shift raises serious doubts on the presence of a level playing field for all which would have ensured a uniform distribution of students across all score ranges.

Rightly said Prof Khera, "Normal distribution Gaussian curve is a type of continuous probability distribution for a real-valued random variable. Normal distributions are important in statistics and are often used in the natural and social sciences to represent real-valued random variables whose distributions are not known. Their importance is partly due to the central limit theorem. It states that, under some conditions, the average of many samples (observations) (23 lakh is very large sample in any statistical model) of a random variable with finite mean and variance is itself a random variable—whose distribution converges to a normal distribution as the number of samples increases.*(Source Wikipedia -Normal distribution) Ass claimed, a curve due to easy paper should shift to left i.e, there should be inflation of marks across categories or higher centre peak, if due to increased number of students. Exam is a way of analysis of abilities, if the distribution curve is not normal it indicates failure of examination process and sufficient evidence of flawed assessment process. This alone should be enough to scrap an exam, even if there is no cheating, whereas here it appears to be an all sold exam.

Could the inflation be due to high % of repeaters, much higher than previous years? Has anybody analysed that?
