NMC Declares Admissions Past September 30, 2023, Invalid - Major Setback for Medical Aspirants

BREAKING NEWS

In a significant setback for numerous states and medical aspirants, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has rendered all admissions conducted after September 30, 2023, invalid. This stern action has left many medical hopefuls and institutions grappling with the consequences of their admissions beyond the prescribed cutoff date.

The NMC, in a public notice released on October 19, 2023, through its official website, unequivocally declared, "Any counseling administered by central authorities, state authorities, or medical colleges shall be deemed invalid, and students, if admitted, shall be immediately discharged."

The roots of this issue trace back to the NMC's earlier communication through a Public Notice dated July 27, 2023. In that announcement, all stakeholders were apprised of the clear-cut cutoff date for undergraduate MBBS counseling, which was unequivocally established as September 30, 2023. Any admissions or conduct of counseling beyond this stipulated date were explicitly deemed in violation of the NMC's directives, as well as in defiance of various rulings from the Honorable Supreme Court of India.

The National Medical Commission subsequently received reports of several states, including Maharashtra, Bihar, and West Bengal, among others, conducting undergraduate MBBS counseling both online and offline beyond the cutoff date of September 30, 2023. This contravention has prompted the NMC to take stern action, leading to the invalidation of such admissions.

In the October 19, 2023, public notice, the NMC underscored the legal implications of such actions, citing numerous judgments from the Honorable Supreme Court of India and referring to circulars from the Medical Council of India. This development serves as a stark reminder of the imperative for all parties involved to adhere to prescribed guidelines and cutoff dates in the field of medical education.
