India needs more UG and PG medical seats- Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare
Department related parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare has submitted One Hundred Fifty Seventh report on quality of medical education in India on 9th Feb. The primary objective of the Committee behind identifying the subject "Quality of Medical Education in India‖" was to find areas of improvement to ensure that medical graduates are well-equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare delivery.

Through a public notice dated 8th feb 2024 PGMEB of national Medical Commission has instructed medical colleges to not to exploit Post graduate students by compelling them to avail hostel facility.
NMC extends date for seeking comments from stakeholders on NExT Regulations
Through a public notice dated 8th Feb 2024 the National Medical Commission has extended the last date for submission of comments on National Exit Test Regulations,2023 by 10 days.
Lok Adalat orders in favor of hospital, Patient told to settle pending hospital bill with interest
A patient who suffered a heart attack underwent emergency angioplasty at a private hospital in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Before the treatment, the patient's family was told it would cost Rs. 180,000, of which Rs. 110,000 was collected from them. After the treatment, the family created a ruckus at the hospital, caused damage, and left without paying the remaining amount. The hospital filed a case in the local court. Despite repeated summons, neither the patient nor their family appeared before the court. The court ordered the patient to pay the outstanding amount plus interest.
Insurance Companies and Private Hospitals at loggerheads over Cashless Anywhere Initiative
In a significant development the Kerala Private Hospitals Association has instructed their members to withold agreement with insurance companies for their Cashless Anywhere initiative.Dr Anvar Ali,Gen Secy KPHA has issued a written statement for the members.
NMC invites comments from stakeholders on the issue of broadcasting of Live Surgeries
In pursuance of the prayer in a WP before Hon SC it has been decided by NMC to constitute a Committee of experts to give recommendations on the issue of live surgeries broadcast by private hospitals in the country. In this regard all stakeholders and members of the public are invited to provide comments on the said issue of live surgery broadcast within the next 10 days, facilitating the committee in their pursuit of a balanced and informed decision-making process.
NMC seeks Comments from the stakeholders on the National Exit Test Regulations 2023.
National Medical Commission has once again initiated the process of implementation of NExT which was deferred by an order dated July13 th 2023. As per the recommendations of the Committee constituted by the approval of Honorable Minister of Health & Family Welfare to examine the implementation/preparation of conducting the National Exit Test (NExT) exam, the feedback of all the stakeholders is invited by the NMC.
Transfusion of contaminated blood led to death of the patient after surgery, Doctor and hospital held guilty
Considering the act of doctors grossly negligent, NCDRC has recently imposed a fine of 25 Lakh on the treating doctor and the hospital. The husband of the deceased patient as well as the doctor had appealed to NCDRC against the decision of the state commission in which a compensation of12 Lakh was awarded. Complaint was also made in the State Medical Council, to the state govt and a criminal case was also filed by the husband.
NCDRC upholds the decision of State Commission, Jaipur Doctor and Hospital to pay 50Lakh with interest for Medical Negligence and Deficiency in Service
In the judgment delivered on 27th Dec 2023 the NCDRC has upheld the decision of the state comission in which the commission had found treating Gynecologist and hospital guilty of medical negligence and deficiency in service at the time of the birth of a child resulting in permanent disability. State commission ordered the doctor and hospital to pay 50Lakh as compensation with 9percent interest from the date of filling of the complaint in the state commission.
"Admission made at Institutional level in MBBS Course for Academic Session 2023-24 will be Cancelled after verification" NMC
National Medical Commission has informed students admitted in the 2023- 24 session in various medical colleges of India that even though such students whose names are reflected in the final list of 1,04,891 admitted students in MBBS Course for the Academic Year 2023-24, the admissions will still be cancelled at later stage once the verification of admission process is completed by the NMC after receiving the details from Directorate General of Health Services, Govt. of India and all State Counselling Authorities in respect of admissions made at institutional / college level in MBBS Course for academic session 2023-24.
