The incredible story of a brave girl's perseverance: Married at eight, worked in the fields for survival, now an MBBS doctor
(Women's day Special)
Today, on Women's day The Pacemakers present an extraordinary tale of resilience and determination, woven into the fabric of a young bride from the heartlands of Rajasthan, a story poised to resonate deeply with readers and ignite the spirits of countless students preparing for the NEET exam.
Dr. Rupa Yadav's journey began amidst the dusty trails of a humble farming family in the hinterlands near Jaipur. Plunged into matrimony in her tender years due to the stark realities of poverty, Rupa's path seemed destined for obscurity. Yet, against the backdrop of simplicity, her aspirations soared.
As the shadows of adolescence approached, Rupa found herself amidst the rustic charm of her in-laws' abode, navigating the dichotomy of rural life and academic pursuit. With unwavering resolve, she toiled under the sun by day and immersed herself in books by candlelight, emerging triumphant with a commendable 84 percent in her tenth-grade examinations.
One day teachers from Bansal school from nearby town Chomu visited my home after hearing about my score in 10 th class. They had come to offer me free coaching and free transport for further studies. They got surprised when they saw me working in the fields in traditional attire. I am thankful to them, without their support at that crucial juncture I would not have been what I m today. In fact later on teachers at Allen Kota and my principal at SPMC helped me a lot and I m always grateful to each one of them
In the symphony of Rupa's academic achievements, a chance encounter with an MBBS luminary ignited a fervent desire within her soul. With courage as her compass, she shared her dreams with her spouse and kin, who, in a testament to their unwavering support, ushered her onward on her quest for knowledge. Amidst the tumult of life's challenges, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of a benevolent coaching center, extending its wings to shelter Rupa's aspirations with free guidance.
Undeterred by the rigors of farm life and the daunting specter of financial instability, Rupa forged ahead, her spirit unyielding, her gaze fixed upon the stars. In the hallowed halls of academia, she etched her mark with a dazzling 92 percent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, a testament to her indomitable spirit and relentless pursuit of excellence.
I used to wake up at 3AM,would finish all the household chores by 6AM and ran to catch the free transport to the school. Missing the free bus ride meant missing the school because my family had no money to afford my bus fare.
Amidst the labyrinth of uncertainties, Rupa's odyssey continued, culminating in a journey to Kota, the citadel of NEET preparation, where she chiseled her dreams with unwavering dedication. Despite the tempest of life's trials, her resolve remained unshaken, her focus unwavering. With a humble beginning, she ascended the ranks, her journey marked by grit and grace.
With the turn of fate's wheel, Rupa's perseverance bore fruit, as she clinched admission to a government college in Bikaner, her path illuminated by the benevolence of kindred souls who waived her fees, recognizing the valor of her journey.
During my third year MBBS exam my classes were online due to lockdown. The neighborhood women used to taunt me for not getting pregnant despite being married for so long.I got pregnant during my third year MBBS and underwent cesarian operation 25days before my university exam.Leaving my newborn baby at home I took my exams and finally completed my MBBS in 2022 and internship in 2023.
In the crucible of life's trials, Rupa's fortitude stood unwavering, a beacon of inspiration to all who crossed her path. Today, she dons the mantle of an MBBS doctor, her triumph a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. While the corridors of power beckon with promises of security, her heart yearns for loftier heights, fueled by the fire of ambition and the promise of dreams yet unfurled.
( As told to Dr Raj Shekhar Yadav on phone. The Pacemakers is thankful to Dr RR Yadav, Professor Surgery at Medical College Sikar for arranging the interview with Dr Rupa)
