The medical community has been left in shock and horror following the brutal rape and murder of a young postgraduate doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the night of August 8th. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the profession, highlights the grave dangers faced by healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to healing and service.
The Medical Service Centre (MSC) has condemned the brutal rape and murder of Dr. Moumita Debnath at RG Kar Medical College, highlighting the failure to protect medical professionals. MSC has demanded immediate action, including the apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators, enhanced security measures in hospitals, and the dismissal of negligent college authorities. In the Press release issued on 10th August The MSC mentions that they stand in support of ongoing strikes by doctors and students and urge the government to address the systemic violence against healthcare workers urgently. MSC remains committed to advocating for justice and the safety of the medical community.
In response to this tragic event, Dr. Raj Shekhar Yadav, the state convenor of the United Private Clinics and Hospitals Association of Rajasthan (UPCHAR), expressed profound sorrow and outrage. "We express our profound sorrow, outrage, and unequivocal condemnation of this heinous crime. This act represents not only a grave injustice to a dedicated medical professional but also a vile desecration of the sacred trust that our institutions hold as places of safety and care," said Dr. Yadav.
The attack, which has been described as horrific, underscores the vulnerability of medical professionals and the urgent need for enhanced security measures across all hospital and healthcare facilities. UPCHAR is calling for a rigorous and impartial investigation into the crime and is urging authorities to pursue justice with relentless determination.
Dr. Kantesh Khetani, spokesperson for UPCHAR, reiterated the organization's support for the victim's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. "The members of UPCHAR stand in unwavering solidarity with the family, friends, and colleagues of the victim during this time of immense grief. We vow to support them fully in their pursuit of justice and to ensure that those responsible for this abhorrent act are swiftly apprehended and held accountable," said Dr. Khetani. He emphasized that the swift and decisive punishment of the perpetrators is essential not only for the sake of justice but also to send a clear message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, UPCHAR has called for the immediate implementation of stricter security protocols within all medical institutions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future. "The medical community and society as a whole are watching closely, and it is vital that justice is not only served but visibly upheld," Dr. Khetani added.
