Contempt notice to Patanjali Ayurved in case related to misleading advertisement of their products
In a significant development, the Apex Court today has issued contempt notice to Patanjali Ayurved and its MD Acharya Balakrishna for publishing misleading advertisements on medicinal cures.
The Court has restrained Patanjali Ayurved from advertising its products relating to diseases/disorders specified in the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954.
"You(Patanjali) had the courage and guts to come up with this advertisement after the order of this Court! And then you come up with this advertisement. Permanent relief, what do you mean by permanent relief? Is it a cure?" Court observed during the hearing.
On asking his comments on the development, Dr Babu KV,Ophthalmologist and RTI activist from Kerala said ,"I had been complaining to the Ministry of Ayush, the state licensing authority of Uttarakhand, the central consumer protection authority and at last the Prime Ministers office for a period of two years against the continuing violation of magic remedies act by Patanjali. Even after the communication from Ayush ministry to the SLA of Uttarakhand on February 2nd based on the complaint to the PMO, the SLA is sitting over it"
"With the Hon'ble supreme court's order today against Patanjali, my stand is vindicated ",adds Dr Babu KV who is fighting the battle against misleading advertisments by Patanjali Ayurveda since couple of years.
