National Medicolegal Summit held in Jaipur on April 7th witnessed a gathering of nearly 500 doctors from across the country

On April 7, 2024, on the occasion of World Health Day, the first National Medicolegal Summit - 2024, organised for the welfare of the private medical sector of the state, was held in Jaipur. The event was jointly organized by the United Private Clinics and Hospitals Association of Rajasthan (UPCHAR) and the renowned Medicolegal Action Group (MLAG) Trust from Chandigarh.

The event spokesperson, Dr. Rajvendra Singh, informed TP that approximately 500 doctors from Rajasthan and across the country registered and marked their presence at the event. The scientific program continued from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., during which talks were delivered by eminent medicolegal experts.

Dr. Raj Shekhar Yadav, the State Convenor of UPCHAR, along with Dr. Vijai Batra, informed TP Newsdesk that the event commenced with auspicious blessings from Dr. Sudhir Bhandari, Vice-Chancellor of RUHS, and keynote address from Dr. Yogendra Malik, a member of the Ethics and Medical Registraion Board of the National Medical Commission.

Dr Dinesh Shah,president of UPCHAR,Jaipur welcomed and felicitated the Chief Guest in the inaugral cermenoy that started with lamp lighting.

The program commenced with the release of a commemorative souvenir, followed by a series of enlightening lectures delivered by eminent speakers.Dr Kantesh Khetani who edited the souvenir thanked all the authors who contributed their articles for the souvenir.

  Dr. Buddhi Praksh Sharma and Dr Rajpal Lamba,the organizing secreateries inform that renowned doctors from across the country shared their experiences and insights, including MLAG Convenor Dr. Neeraj Nagpal, past National President of Association of Surgeons of India Dr. Suresh Vashishth, renowned gastroenterologist  Dr. Ashwini Setya, Dr. Jacob Mathew from Kerala, Dr. Pradeep Arora from Nagpur,  Dr. Kamal Parwal, Dr. Gaurav Aggarwal, and Dr. Nivedita from Delhi, Dr. Hitesh Bhatt from Mumbai,Prof Suresh Badamath from NIMHANS Banglore,Dr Ashok Sharma from Kota and Dr. S.G. Kabra from Jaipur.

Dr. Suresh Bada Math remarked, "The Medicolegal Conference hosted by Upachar in Jaipur on April 7, 2024, exceeded all expectations. From its thought-provoking theme to the expertise of its speakers, and the spirit of unity it fostered among doctors, the event was truly remarkable."

The conference delved into the complex intersection of medicine and law, addressing vital issues often overlooked in traditional medical education. Attendees gained valuable insights into the legal aspects of healthcare practice, enhancing their understanding and preparedness.

Dr Badamath says , featuring renowned experts from both medical and legal domains, the conference offered informative and engaging presentations that sparked meaningful discussions among participants. It proved to be an educational, interactive, and unifying experience for all involved.

Dr. HM Prasanna, President of the Federation of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association of India who attended the summit along with other office bearers of Federation from different states said that similar events are needed on regular interval in other parts of the country.

The interest shown by doctors in this medicolegal summit indicates that there are some pressing issues before us, like exorbitant and arbitrary compensations being awarded  by various consumer commissions in cases of medical negligence and the rising trend of imposing criminal liability on doctors for cases of medical negligence, which need redressal,said Dr Suresh Vashitha who was one of the faculty in the summit

The summit ended with a vote of thanks by Organizing Co Chaiperson Dr Ramdev Chaudhary. Dr Chaudhary thanked all the delegates and speakers who came from from differnt states to participate in the summit
